Employee and Environmentally Friendly Cobalt Recruitment Proves it is Top of its Game after 5 years
Cobalt Recruitment proved it is top of its game coming fourth place at the prestigious Sunday Times Best Small Companies to Work For ceremony 2007.
A first time entrant to the award, Cobalt was the highest-ranking recruitment consultancy in their category. The event recognises 'small' companies, i.e. those with 50-249 employees who have exemplified excellence in employee workplace management.
Since its inception in October 2001, Managing Directors Timothy Rowe (31) and Adam Walker (35) have continuously proved Cobalt’s salt by providing superior recruitment services to the real estate sector, successfully recruiting in the UK, Europe (including Central Eastern Europe) and the Middle East.
Upon receiving the award last night, Timothy Rowe said, "We are delighted to have made it to fourth position on our first attempt. In order to be successful, we recognise the importance in creating both a rewarding and engaging working environment. I believe the secret to employee engagement is; treating people with respect, leading by example, fairly rewarding hard work and giving each team member room to grow."
Based in central London, Cobalt encourages staff to get to work by walking, cycling or running. It also favours an environmentally friendly company car, the G-Wiz, and aims to build a fleet of 15 by 2008.
At Cobalt, the work/life balance is carefully maintained, with an emphasis on helping employees to use their time efficiently to avoid working extra hours - senior managers lead the way by rarely staying late. Every summer there is a mad rush to get away... the Directors take all 60 staff on a three-day holiday to a top European destination. Consultants find it pays to get results, as best performers are rewarded with a free skiing trip.
Cobalt received an overall 90% leadership score – every senior manager at the company was an internal appointment. The Cobalt team have great faith in Rowe and Walker, with a positive score of 95% taking the firm to the top of the survey for this question. People have confidence in the leadership skills of senior managers (92%) and also feel supported by their direct managers (90%), who staff say, really care about how satisfied they are in their jobs (89%), all scores that rank first or second.
Best Companies survey thousands of employees from hundreds of UK based companies, asking them what they think of their workplace. The survey uses seventy questions to gain a comprehensive view of employee engagement across eight factors, namely, leadership, well being, my manager, my team, my company, personal growth, giving something back and fair deal.
