The Company

Our Client is a well-known Private Equity firm with a global mandate in the middle-market growth companies.

The Position

The role is the first legal hire for them globally reporting to the firm’s COO sitting in HK.  The role will be responsible for providing legal support and input into portfolio acquisitions and exits as well as helping to develop fund structures and supporting new fund launches. Alongside this, you’ll be required to assist with operational legal matters such as fund-raising, IP, compliance and employment issues.  The primary role is to advise the firm’s senior leadership and investment team on all investment, fund and corporate legal matters in China, Hong Kong and off-shore.

The Person

The ideal person will be a HK, Chinese or common-law qualified lawyer with significant private equity AND/OR asset management experience either with a law-firm or working directly in the Private Equity industry. Essential to success of this position would be Mandarin fluency as the firm is looking at potential acquisitions in China currently.

The firm has a track-record of a creative and innovative approach to private equity and are looking for a lawyer with a similar mindset. It’s quite an entrepreneurial environment and you’ll have a lot of autonomy. There is also potential for this role to eventually grow into the Group’s general counsel as the firm matures.

As it’s a sole legal counsel role initially and is the first legal hire for the firm,  the workload is expected to be considerable in the beginning at the very least. However, the quality and scope of work is very rewarding and should compensate for the workload and time commitments.
