Adam Walker & Timothy Rowe – Founders
Timothy Rowe and Adam Walker co-founded Cobalt in 2001 after having enjoyed successful careers in the property and recruitment industries.
James Wakefield – Chief Executive Officer
James became Cobalt’s first CEO in April 2017 after nearly 10 years with the business. During this time he has led teams in London and the UAE whilst playing a leading role in the expansion of Cobalt’s non-European operations and the development of the management team on a global basis. James joined Cobalt in July 2007 from the City Division of Michael Page having quickly established himself as one of the company’s most successful consultants and managers. Prior to his career in recruitment, he served as an Officer in the British Army for six years, during which he deployed on multiple operational tours and gained a Queen’s Commendation for his efforts to rebuild the key infrastructure of Southern Iraq in 2003. James holds a masters degree in Economics & International Relations.
Richard-Emanuel Goldhahn – Managing Director – Germany
Richard is the Managing Director of Cobalt Deutschland GmbH and began his career at Cobalt in 2008. Before establishing the company’s German business, he worked for an international recruitment agency managing the German real estate business. He started his professional career managing human resources for major national corporations. Richard-Emanuel Goldhahn has a degree in Business Administration.
Christopher Mackenzie – Managing Director – UK
Christopher is the Managing Director responsible for the UK business consisting of its head office in London and office in Manchester. He joined Cobalt in 2003 and has since seen the business transform from 1 to 14 global offices in that time. As well as leading the UK business, he has responsibility for business development and recruitment across the Real Estate sectors and has a strong track record of successfully placing people within fund managers, property companies and property consultancies. Prior to this role, he worked in the banking sector and has a degree in Financial Services.
Stephen Shorter, ACA, MA (Hons) Cantab – Group Chief Financial Officer
Stephen trained with Deloitte LLP in London, specialising in consumer businesses and healthcare. After qualification, he moved to Nuffield Health and held various commercial finance roles within the Consumer Fitness division. At Nuffield, Stephen helped to lead the integration of the former Cannons gyms into Nuffield’s existing wellbeing platforms to create the UK’s first end-to-end healthcare business. He left Nuffield in 2011 to join Unspun, an events and engagement agency, as General Manager with overall responsibility for Finance and Operations. Highlights at Unspun included delivering the acclaimed Opening and Closing Ceremonies of the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic games and BBC Sports Personality of the Year 2012. He has a degree from Cambridge University in Social & Political Sciences.
Sara Burton – Global Operations Director
Sara commenced her career in Recruitment on an Interim desk at Badenoch & Clark, initially recruiting accountants for surveying practices, before diversifying into sourcing the surveying professionals themselves. Seeking an opportunity to build on this sector expertise, she joined Real Estate specialists Cobalt in 2003 to start the Interim Surveying desk in London. Her success at incubating new divisions included kick-starting the public sector and Singapore desks. Having had such a broad experience in both location, sector and type of recruitment, Sara is our in-house expert on legal recruitment and compliance matters, taking the lead in everything from key account management, supplier engagement and database management. Sara holds a degree in Philosophy & Politics from the University of Warwick, and much good it does her too.
Marcus Davies Bateman – Managing Director – Singapore
Marcus is Managing Director of Cobalt Singapore and has over 12 years of recruitment experience with Cobalt Recruitment having started in London in 2006. Marcus began his career covering temporary and contract positions across the UK before leading a number of permanent teams. In 2012 he relocated to Singapore to set-up the new office covering Asia Pacific but with a focus in Singapore, SE Asia, Hong Kong and China. He has specialised in all aspects of real estate, private equity and construction and engineering recruitment. Marcus began his career working as a Police Officer in the UK responding to emergency calls and serious offences.
Guy Davidson – Managing Director – New Zealand
Guy heads Cobalt's New Zealand business having joined the company in London in 2007. As a consultant he was a true natural, operating across a broad range of property roles and succeeding in both fair and not so fair market conditions. When his time came to return to New Zealand it therefore made perfect sense for him to establish Cobalt there. A task that he executed with aplomb, building a market-leading business that now operates across all of Cobalt's key disciplines. In addition to being passionate about the built environment space in New Zealand Guy takes huge pride in both his people and the high-quality consultative service that they provide. He is a graduate of the University of Canterbury and a keen fisherman.
Holly Osborn - Head of Talent
Holly started her recruitment career at Badenoch & Clark as an interim consultant, rising quickly and setting the record for the most temps out on a public sector desk. She then joined Cobalt in 2006 to set up temporary finance and hasn't looked back. Her career with the business has seen her set numerous company records across a broad range of areas including property management, business support, property systems and finance, many of which she set up. Along with being an outstanding consultant Holly's strengths include training development and internal recruitment. She was, therefore, the natural choice to become Cobalt's first Head of Talent in 2018, a key role that incorporates internal recruitment, training, development and retention. Holly has a degree in Business Administration and a great sense of humour.
Daniel Bauer - Head of European Growth | Managing Director Austria
Daniel joined Cobalt Recruitment over 13 years ago and was initially trained by one of its founders, Adam Walker. Daniel then started Cobalt’s expansion into the German-speaking market in 2006 and is Founding Member of both Cobalt Germany & Austria where he successfully established the business for Cobalt Recruitment. During his time at Cobalt Recruitment, he has filled over 250 roles, making him a highly experienced consultant within the real estate recruitment industry with a network that reaches from London to the whole of the German-speaking continent. Daniel Bauer has intensive and sustainable relationships with clients and candidates alike. His clients are national and international companies and he recruits on all hierarchy levels up to Managing Director/Board level. Due to his extensive experience and strong network he is the first point of contact for Executive Search Mandates at Cobalt Recruitment. Prior to joining Cobalt, Daniel studied Architecture at the “HTL Wr. Neustadt” in Austria. He is fluent in German (native) and English and spent several years abroad.
