Assistant Project Manager, Commercial Construction
Location: Newark, NJ
Job Type: Full-time, in-person

Pay: $75,000 - $95,000 per year
An employee-owned specialty general contractor with a 65-year track record across the Northeast and mid-Atlantic is hiring an Assistant Project Manager to support its project management team on banking, corporate, retail, and healthcare construction projects. You'll shadow an experienced PM and learn the full project lifecycle firsthand, from estimating and bidding through budgets, schedules, and closeout. The role runs primarily out of the office, with occasional travel into New York City for client meetings on higher-profile projects. This is a hands-on, mentorship-driven entry point into construction project management with a stable, growing ESOP company.
Responsibilities
- Learn and perform estimating and project takeoffs, and support the project bidding process
- Learn to build, understand, and maintain project budgets
- Learn and support the RFI and submittal processes
- Learn various forms of construction contracts
- Support preparing and maintaining project schedules, and schedule and attend project meetings
- Learn to read and interpret project drawings and specifications
- Support the punch list, change order, and project close-out processes
- Learn the billing process, including pay applications and lien waivers
- Learn insurance requirements, relevant laws, and bonding
- Support quality control/quality assurance and customer relations on active projects
Required Qualifications
- 2+ years of construction industry experience (1+ year construction management experience preferred)
- OSHA 10
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Valid driver's license
- Strong problem-solving, multitasking, and attention-to-detail skills
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Proficiency with MS Office and ability to learn company-specific software
Preferred
- Degree in Construction Management, Design, or Engineering
