The Ministry of Health is responsible for providing active stewardship and leadership across the health and disability sector to ensure the highest level of healthcare, support and treatment to New Zealanders countrywide. A key component of the health system is the maintenance and development of the facilities through which the healthcare, support and treatment is provided.

There is significant current and future investment being directed by the MoH and its DHB partners in to upgrading existing facilities and building new state of the art, purpose-built facilities across NZ to ensure they can continue delivering high standards of healthcare within the sector

The MoH has created a key new role, Director – Health Infrastructure, to ensure the successful delivery of these nationwide projects, initially focused in the South Island where considerable investment is being channelled, however, this will extend to other regions across the country. The role will be based in Wellington with national travel required, as each project dictates.

The position of Director – Health Infrastructure, will work closely with the Deputy Director General DHB Performance Support & Infrastructure and in collaboration with the Group Manager Capital Investment Management, they will oversee, advise, streamline and on occasion directly manage significant hospital builds across the Health and Disability sector.

Completion of these significant projects on time, to budget and scope is the key deliverable of the position. The Director – Health Infrastructure will have ultimate responsibility for the contract teams and contractors delivering the build projects, as well as identifying efficiencies across the project management function of the builds.

The role will also manage the political interface, media and senior stakeholder engagement in conjunction with the Deputy Director General DHB Performance Support & Infrastructure.

Key Selection Criteria as follows;

  • A tertiary qualification in a relevant field, i.e: Structural Engineering, Construction, Project Management
  • People leadership experience in a complex and diverse organisational setting
  • Experience leading significant programmes of work within government led funding & infrastructure
  • Management of political landscape associated with high visibility national & local projects
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • The ability to manage relationships at all levels
  • The ability to analyse complex technical information to provide advice to a wide range of audiences
  • The ability to pull together clear ideas and conclusions from large amounts of technical data
  • The ability to work autonomously and manage your own workload whilst working cohesively as part of a wider team
  • Demonstrated financial acumen

 

The Director – Health Infrastructure is a role essential to ensuring the Ministry achieves continuous successful delivery of high-quality, future-proofed health and disability infrastructure for all New Zealanders.

This will be both a challenging and highly rewarding position for the successful applicant. It’s a role for an assured, proven, robustly experienced senior operator who can balance the dual challenges of managing large-scale programme risk, and, public and political stakeholder interests.
