How did you get into recruitment?
Like most people I very much fell into recruitment, it was never something I had given much thought to. While travelling through the UK I met a few of my soon to be colleagues at a pub in London. A few cold ones later and I was getting more and more excited by what I was hearing about the area and I was lucky enough to book myself an interview.
Which aspects of your role do you enjoy the most?
The diversity. No day is ever the same in recruitment. Some days you're in the office and others you're out attending an industry event, you can be speaking to a new grad or the CEO for a global consultancy.
It's got its ups and downs like any role but I get to speak with some amazing people from all walks of life (and I get paid for it!).
Is there an element of your role that you find the most challenging?
Managing my time. With so many varied responsibilities you have to be diligent to stay on top of everything. After nearly 3 years at Cobalt, I am still reviewing my processes and organisation methods to find what works best for me.
What do you like most about working for Cobalt Recruitment?
The people! There are so many great attributes you can use to describe cobalt (great brand, progression potential, international reach, etc) but what really makes this company special are its people. Everyone who works here is driven and eager to succeed, working as a team to reach their goals. They also know how to have fun and make the most out of life. It's a cliche I know but they epitomise the credo work "hard/play hard".
What advice would you give to somebody considering a career in recruitment?
Do your research first; into the industry, the companies you're looking to work for, their clients, and most importantly yourself. Matching your key attributes to your market will go a long way to finding success.
