About the Role

Assistant Estimator - Construction

Salary Range: $70,000 - $90,000 (Base Salary) + benefits
Location: Garden City, Long Island
Company: Established General Contracting firm specializing in commercial and high-end retail construction


About Us

We are a reputable General Contracting firm with a strong portfolio in commercial and high-end retail construction. We are seeking an Assistant Estimator to join our growing team and support the estimating department in developing accurate bids and proposals for projects ranging from $5M to $10M+.


Responsibilities

  • Assist in performing both conceptual and detailed estimates for architectural and structural project components

  • Review bid documents, drawings, and specifications to fully understand project scope

  • Break down project trades and identify subcontractors to be solicited for pricing

  • Perform trade take-offs and unit cost analysis to qualify and verify subcontractor pricing

  • Coordinate, prepare, and maintain bid documentation and files, including the Estimating Checklist for each project

  • Support the Chief Estimator in developing conceptual budgets and estimates

  • Produce accurate quantitative surveys and pricing for Lump Sum bids

  • Organize and track project documents for various delivery methods

  • Gather and present unit pricing data for analysis

  • Outline clarifications and qualifications in estimates to ensure accuracy and transparency

  • Provide backup documentation for estimates used during reviews and negotiations

  • Update weekly meeting notes with new plan issuances, bid due dates, and status updates


Qualifications

  • Minimum of 2 years of estimating or related construction experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture, or a related field preferred

  • Strong understanding of change orders, cost review, and negotiation processes

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, MS Office, MS Project, and other estimating/construction software

  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple deadlines simultaneously

  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team environment

  • Detail-oriented, analytical, and motivated to learn and grow in the construction estimating field
