About the Role
Assistant Estimator - Construction
Salary Range: $70,000 - $90,000 (Base Salary) + benefits
Location: Garden City, Long Island
Company: Established General Contracting firm specializing in commercial and high-end retail construction
About Us
We are a reputable General Contracting firm with a strong portfolio in commercial and high-end retail construction. We are seeking an Assistant Estimator to join our growing team and support the estimating department in developing accurate bids and proposals for projects ranging from $5M to $10M+.
Responsibilities
Assist in performing both conceptual and detailed estimates for architectural and structural project components
Review bid documents, drawings, and specifications to fully understand project scope
Break down project trades and identify subcontractors to be solicited for pricing
Perform trade take-offs and unit cost analysis to qualify and verify subcontractor pricing
Coordinate, prepare, and maintain bid documentation and files, including the Estimating Checklist for each project
Support the Chief Estimator in developing conceptual budgets and estimates
Produce accurate quantitative surveys and pricing for Lump Sum bids
Organize and track project documents for various delivery methods
Gather and present unit pricing data for analysis
Outline clarifications and qualifications in estimates to ensure accuracy and transparency
Provide backup documentation for estimates used during reviews and negotiations
Update weekly meeting notes with new plan issuances, bid due dates, and status updates
Qualifications
Minimum of 2 years of estimating or related construction experience
Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture, or a related field preferred
Strong understanding of change orders, cost review, and negotiation processes
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, MS Office, MS Project, and other estimating/construction software
Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple deadlines simultaneously
Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team environment
Detail-oriented, analytical, and motivated to learn and grow in the construction estimating field
