A leading design-builder and general contractor in the New York Metropolitan area established in 1974, is looking for a Safety Director to oversee a team of 5 Safety Managers, and $8+ Billion Dollars worth of heavy civil and SCA projects
Job Overview
Role: Safety Director
Achieve all training and certifications required to be a Senior Safety Manager: DOB, SST card, CSHT, OSHA 500
Must be viewed as a leader and/or subject matter expert by subordinates (e.g. someone they seek out for advice, mentoring, etc.)
Must have successfully hired and trained safety subordinates
Loyal to the Company and promotes the Company culture
Contributes to and helps all locations acquire and execute projects
Participate in personnel moves that best suit the overall company goals
Participate in the semi-annual evaluation process for all Safety professionals
Provide oversight and direction of the safety department in all offices, including the management of field safety personnel
Participate and lead involvement in outside safety organizations
Help establish future planning including Company direction and strategies as it relates to safety
Stays abreast of all current and emerging developments in safety
Serve as an expert in the field of safety for each office to address regulatory compliance issues, third party safety and liability consultations and subcontractor inquires
Participates in the monthly Project Manager/Superintendent meetings
Actively participates in safety meetings across all offices to review H.S.E. performance and policies
Leads training of safety personnel in all offices
Devise, coordinate and implement training programs to increase proficiency in safety practices
Assist in the implementation of corrective actions following incidents
Ensure "lessons learned" are communicated throughout the company and are incorporated into the safety program
Responsible for the design, implementation, communication, and coordination corporate safety programs
Develop and provide direction for the corporate safety committee with critical importance on overall safety performance, objectives, operations, and profitability
Assist project teams in the investigation of all project incidents (GL, WC, recordable incidents, observations, First Aid, etc.) to assure proper records are completed/submitted
Conduct site visits and oversee safety staff completion of audits and safety observations
Address specific reporting and record keeping requirements of OSHA, EPA and pertinent safety/regulatory compliance matters so that project sites stay in compliance
