Senior Operations Head (Director of Construction)

This role, reporting directly to the Board of Directors, encompasses the oversight and management of Business Unit Executive Directors, Directors, Project Executives, and Project Managers responsible for our construction projects. The primary objective is to ensure efficient and effective delivery of construction projects by providing strategic direction, establishing priorities, and allocating resources. From project initiation to completion, this position is accountable for maintaining and driving operational outcomes.

Responsibilities

  1. Operational Management: Assume responsibility for day-to-day company operations, including finance interfacing, field operations management, project staffing supervision, and on-site progress monitoring.

  2. Construction Operation Planning: Plan, manage, and direct all aspects of construction operations, upholding our commitment to safety throughout the organization.

  3. Operational Control: Oversee and maintain control over construction operations to achieve and sustain operational excellence.

  4. Project Life cycle Management: Assume project ownership from initiation to completion, ensuring successful project staffing, scheduling, timely completion, and efficient purchasing.

  5. Financial Reporting: Generate monthly financial reports (WIP) for ongoing projects, providing insight into project performance.

  6. Performance Goals: Develop and monitor performance goals, establishing a culture of achievement and continuous improvement within the operations department.

  7. Stakeholder Engagement: Collaborate with Executive Leadership, Estimating, and on-site Construction Managers to foster effective communication and project oversight.

  8. Financial Acumen: Possess a comprehensive understanding of project financials, including forecasting, WIP analysis, cash flow schedules, and financial performance evaluation.

  9. Strategic Planning: Contribute to the development and execution of operational strategic and business plans, supporting business development, client development, and client retention efforts.

  10. Resource Allocation: Allocate necessary resources to achieve project and employee performance goals, monitoring progress and implementing corrective measures as required.

  11. Risk Mitigation: Proactively identify potential risks and establish preventive action plans to address them effectively.

  12. Conflict Resolution: Provide prompt and effective problem resolution to improve client and project team relationships.

  13. Relationship Building: Foster strong internal and external relationships, collaborating with project teams to ensure successful project scoping and execution.

  14. Team Collaboration: Create a collaborative team environment, encouraging cooperation and innovation.

  15. Senior Leadership Support: Assist in troubleshooting, negotiation, and mediation of client or subcontractor issues, ensuring contract compliance.

  16. Contract Administration: Oversee contract administration, cost control, and cash flow analysis to maintain project profitability.

  17. Accountability: Provide oversight and accountability, ensuring projects are on track, on schedule, and within budgetary constraints.

  18. Site Inspections: Conduct routine on-site inspections to ensure quality and adherence to project standards.

  19. Travel: Travel to job sites and offices on a routine basis to support operational needs.

  20. Human Resources Collaboration: Work with Human Resources on training, development, and succession planning initiatives to foster employee growth and retention.

Requirements

  • Strong leadership and management skills.
  • Proven experience in construction management and/or project management.
  • Advanced knowledge of construction management processes, methodologies, and best practices.
  • Expertise in building products, construction details, regulations, and quality standards.
  • Comprehensive understanding of the construction process across all phases.
  • Familiarity with construction management software packages (Procore and Viewpoint are advantageous).
  • Proficient in conflict and crisis management.
  • People development and human resources management abilities.
  • Excellent time and project management skills.
  • Bachelor's degree in construction management, architecture, engineering, or related field.
  • Minimum of 15+ years of field knowledge and experience.

Salary $200,000-$300,000

The above salary range represents Cobalt's good faith and reasonable estimate of the possible base compensation range at the time of posting and is one part of the total rewards package this client provides to employees.
