Senior Assistant Project Manager, Ground-Up Multifamily Construction

An employee-owned real estate developer and general contractor based in Westchester, NY is hiring a Senior Assistant Project Manager for a 150-unit ground-up multifamily development in New Haven, CT. You'll partner with an experienced Project Manager across all phases of construction, gaining exposure to both the development and construction sides of the business. This is a high-end APM seat with real change order ownership, comparing drawing revisions to determine scope and pricing, not just processing paperwork, with a strong path to Project Manager.
Responsibilities
- Support the Project Manager in delivering a ground-up multifamily project from start to finish
- Independently compare prior and current drawing sets to identify scope changes, and determine what change orders are needed and how they should be priced, not just process the paperwork
- Coordinate subcontractors, vendors, consultants, and self-performed work
- Manage RFIs, submittals, shop drawings, change orders, and project documentation
- Track project schedules, procurement, budgets, and cost reporting
- Participate in project meetings and assist with project closeout
Required Qualifications
- 5+ years of experience as an Assistant Project Manager, Project Engineer, or similar role, at the senior end of that range
- Strong, hands-on change order judgment: comfortable reading drawing revisions and independently determining scope impact and pricing, not just documenting what's handed to you
- Strong understanding of construction documents, scheduling, and cost control
- Experience with Procore, Bluebeam, Microsoft Project, or similar software
Preferred
- Ground-up multifamily construction experience
- Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field
- Prior exposure to Project Manager-level responsibilities
