Assistant Project Manager, Retail, Restaurant & Commercial Buildouts
Location: Garden City, NY (HQ), with travel to active job sites across the NYC tri-state area
Job Type: Full-time, in-person

Pay: $100,000 - $115,000 base salary, commensurate with experience
A national commercial GC on Long Island, specializing in retail, restaurant, and commercial buildouts, is hiring an Assistant Project Manager to support fast-paced, quick-turn tenant improvement projects. Office-based, client-facing role: scheduling, budgeting, estimating, and documentation, working closely with an experienced PM and the company's in-house superintendents. Come from a commercial GC, retail, or restaurant construction background, no residential, with solid takeoff, estimating, and change order experience.
Responsibilities
- Assist with estimating, project takeoffs, and the bidding process for retail, restaurant, and commercial buildout projects
- Help build, understand, and maintain project budgets
- Support the RFI and submittal processes
- Apply working knowledge of construction contracts and change orders
- Support preparing and maintaining tight, brand-rollout project schedules, and schedule and attend project meetings
- Read and interpret project drawings and specifications
- Track subcontractor scopes, schedules, and documentation across multiple active buildout sites
- Support the punch list, change order, and project close-out processes
- Support the billing process, including pay applications and lien waivers
- Coordinate inspections and approvals with landlords, architects, and local building departments
- Help update clients on schedule, budget, and project status
- Support quality control/quality assurance across active projects
Required Qualifications
- 2+ years of commercial construction experience with a general contractor, or a retail/restaurant construction subcontractor (no single-family residential)
- Working knowledge of estimating, project takeoffs, and the change order process
- Comfortable managing multiple fast-moving, schedule-driven projects at once
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications
- Proficiency with Procore, MS Project, and MS Office
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Valid driver's license and ability to travel between job sites as needed
Preferred
- Prior experience on multi-site retail or restaurant rollout programs for national brands
- Experience with occupied-space remodels or phased/night-shift construction
- Degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field
