About the Role
Project Manager - Mechanical HVAC Installation
A well established Mechanical Contractor and Licensed Master Plumber in New York City is seeking an experienced Project Manager to oversee major mechanical and plumbing installation projects throughout NYC and the five boroughs. The company delivers large scale upgrades including boiler plants, heating systems, domestic hot water systems, HVAC equipment, controls, mechanical room repipes, energy efficiency retrofits, and capital improvement projects.
This is a leadership role for a hands on, operations driven professional who thrives in fast paced environments and takes ownership of project performance. Typical project values range from 5M to 30M.

Salary: $125,000 to $160,000 per year based on experience

Role Overview
The Project Manager is responsible for directing all phases of mechanical and HVAC installation projects, ensuring successful delivery from planning through commissioning. This includes schedule, budget, field supervision, client communication, and contract execution. Key functions include:
Leading an Assistant Project Manager and supporting their development
Reviewing design documents, bid packages, scopes of work, and budgets
Developing and maintaining project schedules and progress tracking
Securing permits, inspections, and all required signoffs
Coordinating field crews, subcontractors, and daily work execution
Monitoring labor hours, equipment costs, and material usage to maintain budget goals
Managing full contract scope and ensuring completion of all deliverables
Preparing change orders, cost impacts, and communicating approvals with clients
Planning and overseeing procurement with vendors and manufacturers
Participating in project meetings with architects, engineers, clients, and city agencies
Managing site logistics and building access with property management
Conducting equipment start up, commissioning coordination, and end user training
Maintaining project logs including RFIs, submittals, punch lists, change orders, and closeout documentation
Experience and Skills Needed
The ideal candidate is an experienced mechanical construction leader with strong technical knowledge and field management skills. Requirements include:
Minimum 5 years of project management experience in mechanical or HVAC construction
Significant boiler experience (minimum 5 years) is strongly preferred
Strong understanding of steam and hydronic heating, domestic hot water systems, pumps, fuel and gas systems, plumbing, mechanical code, and basic electrical
Familiarity with chillers, cooling systems, fans, and controls is a plus
Experience supervising mechanical crews and managing multiple active job sites
Ability to interpret plans, specifications, and engineering documents
Strong communication skills and ability to work collaboratively with clients and project partners
Highly organized, detail focused, and able to prioritize in a fast paced environment
Proficiency with project management platforms such as Asana or BuildOps
Degree in mechanical engineering or project management preferred
Proven history of successfully delivering mechanical installation projects
