Commissioning Engineer (Mechanical / HVAC)

Location: Mount Vernon, NY (Projects throughout NYC)
Salary: $120,000-$140,000

About the Role

We're partnering with a growing mechanical contractor to hire a Commissioning Engineer who will oversee the startup, testing, troubleshooting, and commissioning of commercial HVAC and heating systems. This is a hands-on field position where you'll work closely with project managers and installation teams to ensure newly installed systems are operating safely, efficiently, and according to design.

What You'll Do

• Lead the startup and commissioning of commercial boiler, HVAC, steam, and hydronic systems.
• Verify equipment, controls, and safety devices are installed and operating correctly.
• Review mechanical drawings, wiring diagrams, and sequences of operation.
• Perform system testing, combustion analysis, troubleshooting, and performance verification.
• Coordinate startup activities with project managers, field crews, vendors, and manufacturers.
• Prepare commissioning reports and project closeout documentation.
• Identify and resolve commissioning issues before final turnover.
• Travel to job sites throughout NYC and Westchester.

What We're Looking For

• 4+ years of experience with commercial HVAC, boilers, hydronic or steam systems.
• Experience commissioning, starting up, servicing, or troubleshooting mechanical systems.
• Ability to read mechanical drawings, electrical schematics, and control diagrams.
• Familiarity with BAS/BMS platforms and HVAC controls.
• Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering preferred, but equivalent field experience will be considered.
• OSHA certification and a valid driver's license preferred.

• Boiler plant commissioning
• BACnet, Modbus, or LonWorks
• Combustion analysis
• LL87 / LL97 or retro-commissioning projects
