About the Role
A well-established general contractor is seeking a Director of Safety to lead and manage company wide safety initiatives and loss control programs while fostering a strong culture of safety across the organization. This role combines leadership, administrative oversight, and hands-on involvement to ensure compliance with OSHA standards and industry best practices across multiple offices and project sites.
Key Responsibilities
* Lead and manage the company's safety initiatives, policies, and programs
* Supervise the safety team and coordinate inspections, action items, and safety concerns
* Conduct bi-yearly safety training sessions for field staff on OSHA requirements, policies, and best practices
* Oversee companywide safety inspections and reporting through Procore
* Ensure daily Task Hazard Analyses (THAs) are completed, uploaded, and properly tracked
* Supervise weekly toolbox talks and assist project managers with site-specific safety plans
* Review potential projects for safety concerns and risk implications
* Enforce company safety policies and report violations to leadership
* Participate in safety audits and identify areas for improvement
* Collaborate with third-party safety consultants on inspections, OSHA policies, and compliance
* Provide guidance to field supervisors regarding site-specific safety concerns and upcoming work
* Attend project meetings with clients, contractors, and subcontractors to address safety issues
* Investigate incidents, near misses, and injuries and ensure proper reporting procedures are followed
* Maintain OSHA logs and update the company Health, Safety, and Environmental program
* Oversee compliance platforms such as ISNetworld and maintain accurate safety documentation
* Manage employee training records including OSHA certifications, lift training, and fit testing
* Ensure company equipment meets safety standards through inspections and maintenance tracking
* Lead the company Safety Committee and support insurance and compliance obligations
* Develop and distribute quarterly safety communications highlighting best practices and industry updates
Qualifications
* Minimum 5 years of experience in construction safety or a related field
* Minimum 3 years of experience within a general contractor environment
* OSHA 30 certification required
* OSHA 500 certification required or ability to obtain shortly after hire
* Additional OSHA certifications (510, 3085, 3115, etc.) are a plus
* Experience managing teams and leading safety initiatives
* Strong written and verbal communication skills
* Strong organizational, time management, and computer skills
* Experience with Procore or similar construction management software preferred
* Conversational Spanish is a plus
* Willingness to travel overnight between offices and job sites
Compensation & Benefits
* Base salary between $100,000 and $140,000 depending on experience
* Travel expenses fully covered with per diem
