Controls Engineering Commissioning Manager
Location: NYC Metro Area
Salary: 130k to 150k plus bonus
About the Role
A top mechanical contractor in New York City is seeking a Controls Engineering Commissioning Manager to support building automation and heating system projects throughout the region. The position suits both contractor-side controls professionals and client-side OEM specialists who have a mix of BAS programming, field troubleshooting, and team leadership experience.
You will work hands on in mechanical rooms, program and optimize BAS logic, guide technicians during installations, and ensure systems operate as designed from startup through commissioning.
Primary Responsibilities
Program or modify DDC controls using platforms such as Node RED, Easy IO, Sedona, Niagara, or similar
Develop and verify sequences of operation for boilers, pumps, air handlers, and central plant systems
Integrate equipment through BACnet, Modbus, and TCPIP communication
Support and direct field technicians during installation and system setup
Review wiring quality, device placement, panel layout, and system readiness
Troubleshoot operational issues during startup and commissioning
Maintain project schedules and coordinate daily field activity
Prepare commissioning documentation, updates, and project closeout materials
Work directly with engineers, project managers, and building stakeholders
Required Experience
Four plus years of experience in HVAC controls, BAS, or building automation
Ability to program, adjust, or work with DDC logic in a visual or block based interface
Working knowledge of HVAC equipment, boilers, or central plant systems
Experience with BACnet or Modbus integration
Strong field troubleshooting skills with low voltage wiring and I O
Ability to read schematics, P and IDs, and mechanical drawings
Experience supporting or supervising installation technicians
Preferred Experience
Familiarity with modern BAS tools such as Node RED, CPT Tools, Niagara, or similar platforms
Exposure to commissioning, startup, or optimization of HVAC or mechanical systems
Experience coordinating with installers, electricians, or client side teams
Understanding of building automation workflows from installation through performance verification
Industry training or certifications in BAS, HVAC, electrical, or related fields
Compensation and Benefits
Base salary: 130k to 150k
